I have known Jerry Hjeltness for 30 years and have always been impressed with the quality of his work on 300SLs and comforted by his gentle and professional demeanor. On the two occasions when we needed serious repairs, there was no doubt as to where to take the cars. I recently experienced the most humbling mishap, severely twisting the driver’s side wing on my 1954 coupe. Jerry and Eric completed the repairs in a timely manner and did an absolutely perfect color match on the one of a kind metallic paint. Hjeltness Restoration was a pleasure to work with. They completely restored my MB 300SL Roadster and its removable hardtop to showroom condition in a professional timely manner and added a great A/C system that was all but invisible, except for the elegant vents. The 300SL is a beautiful work of art. This may have been true in the original design, but whatever might have been lacking it is your talent and the talent of your people that has brought the car to such a level of excellence. I don’t think a finer car exists.
I want to tell you something of the emotions that have been at work on me over the recent years. There was a time last year when I had become completely “uninvolved” with and rather indifferent toward this car. I thought to myself – “gee all this waiting, anticipating and expense, and now I don’t even seem to care about it,” but as the delivery date drew nearer I got the excitement back. Now seeing, smelling and driving the car has instantly caused the love affair to blossom again. I went to the garage twice last night just to smile and stare.
I don’t know who all to thank besides you, Sue and Eric, but I want you all to know you’ve made me feel like a kid again. It’s like the first time I ever rode in the 300SL, but 10 times better. I am one happy guy – thanks to you!
